Joe Biden slammed over claims
his economic plan ‘costs zero dollars’
A single tweet by Joe Biden about the cost of his new economic plan has not only enraged Republicans, but left his supporters shaking their heads.
Analysts and politicians in the US have called out President Joe Biden for tweeting that his Build Back Better plan “costs zero dollars”, with one of his supporters going so far as to call his claim false.
Mr Biden’s $US3.5 trillion ($4.8 trillion) Build Back Better domestic plan aims to create jobs and lower costs for working families, largely funded by raising taxes on wealthy Americans and large corporations.
However, Republicans have ripped the reconciliation package as a massive bill that one critic said “ultimately provides benefits to wealthy liberal elites at the expense of working-class families”.
Mr Biden and his communications office were accused of telling a “lie”, with some arguing that despite his pledge, the President’s agenda will be costly and a burden on the middle class.
“I have to admit, I thought this was from a parody account when I first read it,” New York Republican Representative Claudia Tenney added in a follow-up tweet.
“It was disturbing to see it was actually from our President. He thinks he can spend an unprecedented $3.5 trillion and not add a penny to the debt? This is who is in charge? Scary.”
“Your comms person is ‘economically illiterate,’” Erielle Davidson, senior policy analyst at The Jewish Institute for National Security of America, said.
